acute pancreatitis in Childhood

Abstract
A case of acute pancreatitis in 3.8 years girl is presented with brief review of literature, emphas
izing differential diagnostic value among various acute surgical abdomen in children.
In chidren, pancreatitis is an uncommon cause of abdominal pain, emesis and shock, although it
usually has a diffrent etiological basis than in adult.
Our cases was explored for intestinal obstruction and was found to have hemorrhagic pancreatitis
presumably due to blunt trauma to the abdomen, and the patient recovered fully in 14 days postoper
atively.
Operation should be avoided if possible in all critically ill patients with pancreatitis, but children
with posttraumatic pancreatitis are usually treated most effectively by surgical expliration in the prese
nce of continued bleeding, large hematoma, pseudocyst formation or protracted deterioration with
conservative measures.
